A look at recent events and member projects
So we have recently completed our video entry to the SparkFun Antimov contest. The goal is to create a robot which accomplishes a mostly ridiculous task and then destroys itself. Our creation, Frankie, was able to light a sparkler using another sparkler and then…Well, just enjoy
Our submission took second place. We were narrowly beat out by the “Teddy Bear Birthday Party”, which did indeed have a pretty spectacular finish.
Quite a bit has been happening with the group the last few weeks. Weekly meetings are going well and there has been an interest group formed for building a Scanning Tunneling Electron Microscope using (among other things) an arduino, some piezoelectric elements and a fiber of fiberglass. We now have an IRC channel registered on the freenode network, so come and join us in #solidstatedepot if you’re online. We are planning to have a get together in a few weeks. The date and location have not been finalized yet but picture beer, pizza and possibly BBQ in one of Boulder’s beautiful parks. We are still on the hunt for a suitable location for the space, as well as actively inviting new visitors and members to come and check out what we’re all about.
We’re having an event August 10th to present some projects that members have been working on and also to make new friends in the community. The event is open to the public and should run about 2.5 hours. We’ll have a brief introduction and then each presenter will have the floor to talk about their project(s) and do a little Q & A.
Location: DLC Bechtel Laboratory, CU Campus.
