Boulder Ignite 13 – We’ll Be There

John English and Dan Davis-Boxleitner (and possibly others) from the Boulder hackerspace/makerspace Solid State Depot will be presenting at Boulder Ignite 13. The presentation is called “Fight Consumerism by Building It Your Damn Self” and will discuss the history and present day hackerspace experience as well as some interesting projects that hackerspaces around the world are working on. We will have 5 minutes to show 20 slides and entertain a crowd of Boulder’s finest geeks. For more information check out the Boulder Ignite event page.
The tickets are $10 and sell out pretty quickly, so definitely get ’em while they’re hot.

Boulder Ignite Homepage
“Ignite Boulder is a night of presentations with a twist. Presenting on a subject of their choice, speakers have exactly 5 minutes to teach something, enlighten us, or simply inspire — backed by 20 slides auto-advancing every 15 seconds. Quick, fun, and smart: we sell out the largest venues in Boulder.”

Our Wiki Is Online

All Systems Online.

Oh, right.. We have a wiki now! Please feel free to browse around and discover some of the exciting new interest groups that are springing up. You can also find some updates about ongoing projects and even read our Bylaws as we become slightly more official than we once were. We’re currently working on obtaining some office chairs, work benches and fold-up tables for our space as well as any electronic goods we can snag on the cheap (or free!). If you have any inquiries please direct them to donations@boulderhackerspace.com.

As always, we are accepting members. Come and attend one of our tuesday night open-to-the-public meetings and find out more!

First Meeting a Success

Our first meeting at the space was a success. We consumed mass quantities of pizza and discussed our plans for the near future. Dan Z. donated a desktop computer system and we now have enough paying members to tackle the rent. Next up we will try to get a solution for internet access in the space and will be exploring RFID technology for security. A wiki site is in the works for us to use in collaborating on interest groups as well as establishing a list of “things we need” to get our brains and hands working on even more exciting projects. Can we get a quad copter? We certainly have high enough ceilings to fly it. There’s also talk of building a loft. Finally, we’re planning to pull together a kickstarter video.. A whole lot going on. If you’re not yet a member, now is the time to get involved!

Membership Dues

Hey team,

We are now taking membership dues. There will be rent to pay this evening and I hope that everyone can bring at least some of their monthly membership fee. The cost is $50/month, although I have allowed here for some lesser payment options. If there are any difficulties please contact me. It would be easiest for you to bring cash to tonight’s meeting, but I know that some people are out of town and online payment is convenient. Thank you, that is all.

– Dan Davis-Boxleitner
