Arduino Communications Workshop

Who: You!
What: Arduino Communications Workshop
When: Saturday, March 24, 2012, 11:00am-2:00pm
Where: Solid State Depot
Why: because you know you want to.
Cost: Free class with kit available for purchase, $20 for members, $35 for non-members

This Saturday, March 24, from 11:00am-2:00pm, we will be having part two of our Arduino Workshop double header. This time we will go beyond basics and move on to something a little more advanced, communication. The main subjects covered in the workshop will be UART serial communications, SPI communications and I2C communications. To start, we will talk to a serial controlled LCD to not only learn about UART, but also to take the Arduino completely away from the computer and have a truly embedded system. Next, we will cover SPI by communicating with an Analog to Digital Converter. This will allow us to add another analog line to our Arduino. Last, we will talk to a temperature sensor using a type of I2C.

Since this is an intermediate class, it will be assumed that most attendees already own Arduinos. There will be a few for sell, as well as loaners if you don’t have one already. All the parts will be provided in a kit available for purchase, or those with parts already can bring them in. Kits will not be separated. Cost will be $20 for members and $35 for non-members.

It will consist of the following:
Analog to Digital Converter – MCP3002
One Wire Digital Temperature Sensor – DS18B20
Serial Enabled 16×2 LCD – Black on Green 3.3V
Breadboard
Jumperwires
Resistors and other extra hardware for circuits

Please RSVP in the comments by Friday afternoon if you plan on attending. This will allow me to gauge how many kits to bring. Thank you. Hope to see you there.

Arduino Workshops

Saturday March 17 from 11 am – 2 pm we will be having an Arduino workshop. It will be a combination of “learn basic Arduino” and “train the teachers”. Joel is bringing several Protosnaps for the basic Arduino instruction, cost details forthcoming.

March 24 or 31 we are planning for a more advanced Arduino workshop, stay tuned for details.

On Friday April 27 our friends at the CU Hackerspace Club will be holding an Intro Arduino workshop as part of the Communikey festival. There will be up to 50 spots available for this workshop. So if you miss March 17, mark your calendar for April 27!
