New Space for a New Year

The start of 2019 brings with it the annual process of elections, taxes, Winter weather, and in particular for the Hackerspace; expansion!

We have recently made an exciting addition to our community of makers, creators, and hackers. This comes in the form of an annexation of adjacent space, bringing with it a move for the Metal Shop, an office area, extra storage, and a whole other entrance on what was the rear of our building!

A big thank you needs to go out to the admin team and board members for working hard to orchestrate this. So thank you all!

Spring Clean and BBQ 2018

This past Sunday (8th April) we celebrated the space by giving it a little love, with a Spring clean and BBQ!

Tim wrangled the grill between cleaning sessions and renovations. There were sausages, veggies, burgers, veggie burgers, buns, chips, dips, sauces, and a lot of good fun to be had.

A lot was tackled in the days agenda: The Electronics Room received a deep sorting, the Admin Office was cleared out and organized, the carpets shampooed and scrubbed to an airy freshness, the Woodshop deep cleaned and reorganized to a more optimal layout. The Main Room received a sprucing up with special attention given to our large old table, which was sanded clean, stained, followed by a beautiful rendition of the SSD logo, then finished.

Insulation Installation Collaboration

If you've been by the space lately, it might feel a little warmer and brighter than it typically feels in winter. That is thanks to around 30 4x8 foot insulation panels that SSD members and guests installed on the ceiling during the first week of December.

Over 80 person-hours went into the project. Four meetups were scheduled in late November for Nov 29, Dec 1, Dec 2, and Dec 3, where groups of 3-6 people dedicated a few hours of their afternoon/evening to paint, cut-to-size, and/or harness the tiles between the ceiling trusses with wire.
